Kiila & Endpaper Mitts

I’ve gotten to the end of Clue 2 on my first Kiila sock:

I was planning on starting the 2nd sock;  however, I’ve turned my focus to study prior to the workshop:

and to my Endpaper mitts (looks better on):

With the Endpaper mitts not only am I practicing my stranding (two hands!) but I learned a new cast on, the Italian tubular cast on.  Nifty.   I found this video on YouTube that made the cast on immediately clear.

    Your Kiila is looking killa!
Hey, you’ve got Fair Isle skills!!! I have a feeling I’m going to be the class dunce… you can pretend you don’t know me. 😉
So that tubular cast on works specifically for 1×1 rib? Pretty cool.

I didn’t do enough research to see if it could be used for other than 1×1 (though I think I did see some sort of comment, somewhere).

I’ve done a tiny amount of stranding, basically just the Anemoi mitts (which got frogged) and a hat (which is why I’m practicing). I’m pretty slow though.

If you’ve never done it I think it may be worthwhile to play a bit with it beforehand since I think we jump right into swatching with the different colors (not sure on this though).

I’m now in the middle of the thumb shaping on the first mitten….

Eeek, good thing you clarified that for me. I guess I didn’t completely understand what stranding meant when I read the class requirements. I assumed it was just changing yarn colors, ie. stripes. I’ll look at my Zimmerman books and see if she has something that can help me get started.

P.S. Chocolate-Covered Cherry Cookie recipe?— when you have a chance. 😉
