Ooh, I’m really loving this one too.

Meet Kelpie in progress.

The main stitch patterns are modified stitch patterns from one of my Japanese stitch dictionaries.

And the thumb:

This is the first time I’ve used YO’s for the thumb gusset increases.  I also did a bit of broken/seed stitch rib up the center for detailing (repeating the rib on either side of the main panels).

Kelpies are mythical water horses that, in the guise of gorgeous horses, seduce unwary travelers onto their backs — and then drown (and then eat) the unlucky riders in the kelpie’s home body of water.

This Kelpie, though equally lovely, is much, much friendlier!
