Cinnamon Bay: Summer Knitcircus

by StephCat on May 4, 2011

The summer issue of Knitcircus went live today!  There’s me modeling Cinnamon Bay.  (Note, on me, the bodice fits snugly.  The plus sized models at Knitcircus weren’t available, so the model there is wearing it with some positive ease.)  The yarn is Blue Sky Alpacas Skinny Cotton in Island Blue.  If you’re looking for a cotton that won’t hurt your hands while knitting, here it is!  (must say the same for their worsted cotton as well….)

ETA:  A couple of you have asked about the name.  Dave & I went to St John USVI for our honeymoon (over 10 years ago!).  We rented a house, the Castle, which you seriously needed a 4WD vehicle to reach.  (We were able to go during the off season, or at least the shoulder season, can’t remember which, so it wasn’t hideously expensive.)  Cinnamon Bay is a small bay on St John.  It’s a lovely place to snorkel or just hang out.  If I recall correctly, it was there that we saw a big barracuda while snorkeling — adrenaline rush!

As promised, I’m running a giveaway for 3 pattern collections and 1 subscription.  All you have to do is comment on this post with a way to contact you) by midnight PST May 11 2011.  I’d love to hear what your favorites are from the collection.  Mine?  Gosh…Marie Grace’s patterns almost make me wish for kids to knit for.  Her ganseys are classic & versatile.  Allison’s Litha hat is so pretty…I’m a sucker for twisted stitches.  And Kieran Foley’s Mughal shawl…just wow.   And that’s just to start…

And…isn’t the cover just stunning??

I love all the patterns (including yours!) but my favorite would have to be Mughal. It’s just so different from any other shawl I’ve been seeing lately.

I love Orchidea; I’m on a shawl thing atm, but I’m only allowing myself one on the needles at a time

It looks terrific! I was looking over your instructions in the pattern collection and I’m very impressed. I know how much work that must have taken since Mythica has a similar construction. Congrats on a lovely, and technically superior pattern! It’s going in my queue.

Just took a moment to browse this stunning and inspirational issue, firstly your Cinnamon Bay is stunning; the color choice, the workmanship and your touching story :) For me, love Fanette and especially love Litha.
My best to you and your dreams in the works, Deb (DebonairDesigns on Ravelry)

33 Nanette May 10, 2011 at 3:37 pm

What a beautiful tank and I’m so glad I saw this because I was just thinking of ordering some Skinny Cotton. Then I saw that brilliant color and if it is also easy on the hands, I’m sold!

Nanette, who cannot seem to stop ordering yarn lately

34 Amanda May 11, 2011 at 2:35 am

So much to love in this issue!
In particular, the Mughal is stunning, and I can see getting a ton of use out of the adorable Litha hat.
Love the tank as well. It’s interesting seeing examples of it worn with both negative and positive ease. I think it works well both ways!

Thanks for the contest – I’m manduh on Ravelry :)
