First off: Â have you guys seen the new Knitcircus yet? Â I swear, each issue is better than the last, and it’s not just because I work on them. Â I especially love the Komeeta mitts, the Confection hat (great holiday gift idea I think), French Roast, and the Verona cardi. Â But all the patterns are fabulous.
Second, I promised on twitter to post the recipe for the maple buttermilk bread. Â I’m thoroughly embarrassed to realize that I did so on the 4th of November, and it’s taken me this long. Â Regardless, Â I’ve adapted this recipe from The Bread Lover’s Bread Machine Cookbook by Beth Hensperger.
- 1 cup plus 1 tbs buttermilk (original calls for water)
- 1 1/2 tbs unsalted butter, melted
- 3 tbs maple syrup (I use grade B organic from Trader Joe’s)
- 3 cups bread flour (I’ve been known to sub in some wheat, rye, other)
- (I omit the 1/3 cup dry buttermilk powder, which would otherwise come next)
- 1 tbs gluten
- 1.5 tsp salt
- 1 3/4 tsp SAF yeast
Dump it all into the bread machine (liquids first) & let the machine do its thing!
I’ve also been known to add in oatmeal, nuts, etc.

Thanks so much to Wendy for her mention of the Wrought Cardi on her podcast, Knit 1, ⤠Too.  She’s doing a test of it in gorgeous green Dream in Color Classy.
